How to setup Cisco SPA 301 phone

 

As you know, now Sipura is now own by Cisco. So the Cisco recently introduced a new device of 3XX family, this phone device model is Cisco SPA 301. This phone has no LCD, voice interface but it gets IP address automatically, also you can enter the sip setting manually.

This is basically a dual protocol phone, this device supports SCPC and which is one line phone. This terminal has a LED that shows the problem of network connectivity as well as registration status. There is also a buttons for voicemail, redial, flash (call waiting), Volume up/down.

 

 

This phone has also a side button for enabling and disabling the ring without changing the configuration. This terminal doesn't come with POE and which is important  to feed a 5-volt transformer supplied with a puller or POE.

So if you have Asterisk server or any SIP account, go ahead and get one Cisco SPA 301

 

Here is how you can setup this phone:

  • Turn the phone body over to expose the ports on the back of the unit.
  • Insert the long end of the phone cord into the handset port on the phone body that is marked with a phone symbol.
  • Insert the other end of the phone cord into the port at the bottom of the handset (not shown). 
  • Connect your phone to the network:

                 • Using an Ethernet Connection—Insert one end of the Ethernet cable into the network port on the phone body marked      “WAN”. Insert the other end of the Ethernet cable into the appropriate device, such as a network switch, on your network.

                 • Using a Wireless Connection—You can use a Cisco WBP54G Wireless-G Bridge with the IP phone to create a wireless connection between the phone and the network. See the WBP54G documentation on Cisco.com for more information.

  • Insert one end of the power cord into an outlet and insert the other end of the power cord into the power port on the phone body.

     NOTE To power the phone through the Ethernet connection, use the optional Cisco POES5 5-Volt Power Over Ethernet Splitter accessory. See the Cisco POES5 documentation on Cisco.com for more information.

  • (Optional) To install the phone on a vertical surface, use the Cisco MB100 Wall Mount bracket.
